I think the Kingdom of God being like leaven is talking about how it affects and changes the person who believes from the inside out. I'm glad that you focused on the idea of being "born again" since that is really what Jesus is getting at here. The reason why John the Baptist is considered the greatest of those "born of women" since, according to Luke 1:15, he was the only human born with the Holy Spirit from his mother's womb! (We tend to forget this about John) and the reason why he is considered less than the "least in the Kingdom" is because those "in the Kingdom" are without sin (He that is born of God is without sin 1John 3:9) The New Creation is without sin and cannot sin. No. If anyone understood that the Messiah was NOT going to be a political or temporal ruler, it was John. Remember, he is the only other human born with the Holy Spirit from his mother's womb. No, John the Baptist was on an entirely different level than you or me. He understood Jesus's figurative language and understood what Jesus meant when he told His disciples to tell John about His miracles instead of political things when asked if He was the One.

My take on what you said a year ago. All of Israel will be saved to confusing. Here my take Jesus said not all of Israel is Israel. Meaning only the Jews in Christ will be saved. When the rapture happens or the start of the tribulation that will be the end of the age of grace. No body will be saved there no tribulation saints none. Revelations was written by an unknown John that did not call him self Apostle John. So as they say in the land down under. Revelation goes into the bin. Sorry, but you got this one wrong. First John has only 2 major points and BOTH are written to believers. That passage in First John 1 and on into Chapter 2 is about FELLOWSHIP and how to KNOW you're in fellowship and stay in fellowship. Nothing in that passage is written to unbelievers. A believer who refuses to acknowledge their sin to God and confess them will break their fellowship, but they will NOT lose their SONSHIP or their relationship to God as His child. Fellowship and Sonship (or Relationship as His child) are the two major points in First John. If a believer says they have not sinned they will refuse to confess their sins and their fellowship is instantly broken. They will lose their joy and perhaps their assurance even that they are saved if they persist in unconfessed sin. They will also have a guilty conscience and their prayers will be hindered and unanswered. If we confess those sins God is faithful and just to forgive them because they have already been paid for, but they still need forgiveness from the Father and cleansing to restore FELLOWSHIP, but our relationship to God as our Heavenly Father is settled forever once we believe. Salvation cannot be lost or even momentarily lost, but fellowship is broken upon sinning and needs forgiveness and cleansing. If any part of my salvation depended upon me I could lose it any day of the week. Fortunately, Christ paid for all my sins in full. I have no part other than placing my faith in what He did for me and God gives me eternal life as His unmerited free gift. I wonder if it's worth the time to teach those who think they have to persevere or hold out faithful that we're not saved by our faithfulness, but because of the faithfulness of Christ. Those who think they can lose their salvation don't truly understand it and are not rightly dividing the word of truth. Eternal life is a gift by God's grace that can never be lost and it's not kept on the condition of how well you live. If it were then there wouldn't be one person in history to have eternal life and Jesus Christ wasted His precious blood as the Lamb of God when He alone endured the sufferings and death of the cross. You can't agree with Paul the Apostle that the literal nation of Israel has been "broken off", set aside; and then at the end of the same chapter say the nation of Israel is not in view when "All Israel shall be saved." This is undergrad exegesis. And just because one's traditional medieval doctrines inherited from High Churches hated Israel, tortured Jews, and deported them from their homes, there is no Biblical reason to support. Read the entire chapter 11 of Romans substituting "The Church" for every reference to Israel or a pronoun whose antecedent is Israel and you will see why this sort of claptrap traditional doctrine is foolish.

Great verse and well explained. I recently Google searched this verse to see what others said. Came across an article by a well known Calvinist, who you all would know. The article was about the Holy Spirit convicting the world of sin. He quoted verse 8 but left out verse 9. How sad it is to reject the finished works of Jesus and teach others to do the same. Anyways, I love this verse and think it deserves more attention than it gets.
